Rae Swersey, CH Clinical Community Herbalism and Radical Healthcare

Rae’s passion lies in providing inclusive, comprehensive, and accessible health care. Their business is in healing their communities from the inside out. They believe that the healing work they do is framed in a social justice lens and linked to understanding race, class, gender, sexuality, ableism and oppression. Their practice has a strong focus on healing LGBTQQIA folks, activist and organizers, and underserved populations.

Rae is a clinical community herbalist currently in private practice in Asheville, North Carolina. They received their certification in 2008 from the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. From there, they founded the Sassafras Community Health Collective and ran a multitude of community projects including a Drop-In Herbal Medicine Clinic at AHOPE, Asheville’s homeless shelter. In 2011, there skills continued to broaden clinically as they enrolled in the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism with herbalist Paul Bergner in Boulder,CO. During this time they also helped start the Denver Community Health Collective Clinic, providing holistic, accessible and affordable healthcare to the Denver community. In 2012, they completed a clinical mentorship with supervision from herbalists from across the country including Mary Barnes, Caty Crabb and Sandi Ford.

Rae has a BA in Women Studies with minors in Sociology and Psychology from SUNY New Paltz in 2005.

Founded in 2009, Take Care Herbals is the name of their personal herbal medicine practice.
